This post is a friendly reminder to everyone that has an emergency kit.
Your emergency kit is for emergencies.
What does this mean?
It can be really easy to view non emergency situations as emergencies.
Need a flashlight for something and don’t have one on hand but you know there is one in your emergency kit, how likely is it that you will grab it?
But now that emergency kit is missing that item. What happens if something happens and you need it? Tough. You borrowed it for something else.
I get it though. If you are on a tight budget how are you going to have all this gear just sitting around? You might need to change your mindset.
Be Disciplined
I know it can be tough. But it pays to be disciplined.
Work out what you might need to borrow from an emergency kit and see if you can get more of those things.
Thinking about the things I might borrow from an emergency kit. This is what comes to mind:
- Batteries
- Flashlight
- First aid items
These would be my big 3 items and I know I need to have these on hand so I don’t touch the emergency kit.
2 cheap flashlights are probably better then 1 flashlight that isn’t in the emergency kit where it belongs.
Do this if you need to use something
Make sure you put it back or replace it as soon as possible.
You don’t know when an actual emergency might occur and it would suck to be caught out.Â
Be mindful of anyone else that might want to borrow something from your emergency kit. Teenagers are good at helping themselves to things, but might not be the best at returning items to where they belong.
